12yr old Phoenix Weir from Bingham won two singles titles at last week’s Nottinghamshire County Championships tennis tournament, beating Daniel Wright 6-4 6-3 in the 14 & under boys singles final & Puneet Sunner 6-2 6-3 in the 16 & under boys’ singles final. Phoenix, who trains at David Lloyd Aspley & Loughborough University is ranked number 5 in the country in his age category. He also teamed up with his brother Indy to take the 12 & under boys doubles title beating Freddie Booth and Tiger Chin 6-1 6-1 in the final.
Mia Wainwright won the 14 & under girls’ final beating Olivia Corfe 10-7 in a 3rd set match tie-break and the 12 & under title winning 3 matches in a round robin box of 4 girls. She partnered Liana Sharratt- Blanksby from Mansfield to win the 12 & under girls doubles title.
11 year old Liana also went on to win the 16 & under girls singles title following a very tense 3rd set match tie break against Jessica Spencer.
Jessica Spencer won both the 14 & under and 18 & under girls finals with Olivia Corfe and the 16 & under girls final with Millie Wileman.
Daniel Wright also won three doubles finals. 14 & under title with Puneet Sunner, and both 16 & under and 18 & under with Tom Utton.
In the mini tennis section, Hugo Dunn beat Jasper Riley in the 10 & under boys final, Daniel Meins took the 9 & under mixed singles title, with Elijah Killen-Smith winning the 8 & under final. The 10 & under boys doubles was won by Charlie Brown & Hugo Dunn and the 9 & under doubles title by Evan Lam & Nathan Chita
Joel Hemmings beat Jack McLachlan 6-2 6-2 to win the 18 & under boys singles and the Mens’ Singles title was won by Carl Saxby from Mansfield. Carl who coaches at Woodthorpe TC, beat Alex Wood 6-1 6-1 in the last final of the day.

18&U Girls Singles; Anna Kirk bt Sophie Cassidy-De-Falco.
The trophies were presented by Nottinghamshire LTA president Chris Walker and the event was sponsored by John Pye Auctions.
