Corby 12 Counties  - 12U Boys and Girls Report

Team: Charlotte Freeman, Eva Straw, Naomi Szczur, Polly Cullen

Phoenix Weir, Ishy Han, Connor Green, Luca Vergari

The girls team was not our strongest, as the top four girls were unavailable.

The first round was against Leicestershire, Phoenix played a very solid game, his tennis has really developed over the last six months, he won easily 4-2, 4-0. Ishy played well in the first set, but went down 3-5, 0-4. Connor and Luca put up a good fight but both lost in straight sets.

The girls had a tough time as Leics fielded their strongest players, Charlotte, Eva, Naomi and Polly all lost in straight sets, but thankfully were not upset by their losses.

This result gave us a 1-7 loss.

The second round was against Hereford and Worcestershire. Phoenix had another solid win 4-0, 4-0, Ishy again played well, he won the first set 5-4, lost the second, 1-4, and the match tie break 1-10. Connor had a good win, 4-0, 4-2 playing some quality, consistent tennis. Luca sadly had another tough match losing in straight sets.

The girls again played well, it was tough for Charlotte playing at number one, she lost in two sets, Eva had a tight first set 4-5, then lost the second 0-4. Naomi played well, winning 4-2, 4-2 in match she controlled from the start. Polly put up a fight but lost in two sets.

This overall result was 3-5 down.

The final round was against Bedfordshire, we were holding out hopes for a win here.

It started well with Phoenix, Ishy and Connor winning in straight sets, Luca again had a tough match, which he lost.

The girls also had a better time, Charlotte did lose her singles, but Eva won 4-2, 4-2, playing with more confidence. Naomi had another win 4-0, 5-3, second set was tighter but she remained calm, with no intention of losing. Polly played her best match, she lost the first set 3-5, it was unfortunate as her opponent disputed the score 3-2, ( Polly did win the next game) but the referee took them back to 15-15. Polly was very upset and lost the set 3-5. She then went on to win the second set on a set tiebreak, but the lost the match tiebreak 7-10.
The overall score was a win for Notts 5-3 which they deserved.

This result over Bedfordshire put us in joint second place with Hereford & Worcestershire.

The players all played well as a team, with good support in all the matches in a freezing dome.

My thanks also go to the parents for their support throughout the day.
