CHESHIRE V NOTTS Sunday 11th May 2014 Lost 3-2
Notts travelled to play at Cheshire Oaks, full of confidence for their first match, which was slightly tempered by the fact that Eddie Fox would be out for the season, following an illness. John Taylor lost to the British International John Hilton 6-3, 6-1, then Nick Lodge redeemed the situation, beating Richard Simpson 6-2, 6-1, but unfortunately Gerry Radford and Jim Stubbs lost their opening doubles match 6-3, 6-2. In the second round Taylor and Lodge won 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, but Radford and Stubbs lost 6-3, 7-6.
STAFFORDSHIRE V NOTTS Saturday 24th May 2014 Won 4-1
Notts played their next match away at Dudley, where John Taylor lost to Benson Greatrex 6-2, 6-2, and Nick Lodge had a comfortable win against Phil Ingam 6-1,6-1. Gerry Radford and Jim Stubbs completed the first round by beating Andrew Eley and Paul Whalley 6-4, 6-2. In the second round Taylor and Lodge beat Eley and Whalley 6-2, 6-2, and Radford and Stubbs beat Greatrex and Ingram 6-4, 6-1.
NOTTS V DORSET Saturday 7th June 2014 Lost 5-0
A strong Dorset team travelled up to Nottingham, and as expected provided very tough opposition. John Taylor lost to Boyd Brackstone 7-6, 6-4, and Nick Lodge lost his first singles match of the season to Phil Tovey 7-5, 6-2. Gerry Radford and Jim Stubbs completed the first round, losing narrowly to Howard Butterworth and Gerard Wherity 1-6, 6-4, 16-14. To make matters worse, Notts lost both doubles matches in the second round.
NOTTS V HEREFORD AND WORCESTER Saturday 14th June 2014 Won 5-0
Following their previous heavy defeat, Notts switched their team around, which paid benefits. Nick Lodge playing at number one singles beat Alan Purnell 6-2, 6-2, and Gerry Radford beat John Clarke 6-1, 6-1, with John Taylor and Jim Stubbs beating Dennis Wyatt and John Wormington 6-2, 7-6. In the second round Taylor and Stubbs beat Purnell and Clarke 6-0, 1-6, 8-6, with Lodge and Radford completing the whitewash by beating Wyatt and Wormington 6-2, 6-1.
NOTTS V OXFORDSHIRE Saturday 12th July 2014 Won 3-2
In the final match of the season, a win was essential to maintain division 1 status. Nick Lodge completed an outstanding season by beating John Spratt 6-4, 6-0, and Gerry Radford beat Murray Chapman 6-3, 6-1. Jim Stubbs and David Carter lost to Duncan Todd and Adrian Roberts 6-1, 2-6, 10-8. in the second round Stubbs and Carter lost another close match to Spratt and Chapman 2-6, 7-5, 10-8, with Lodge and Radford ensuring overall victory by beating Todd and Roberts 6-4,6-3.
