Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Throughout the winter season 67 teams from clubs across Oxfordshire have been competing against each other in the Oxfordshire junior winter league.

The teams in the 10U -18U age groups were made up of either 4 boys or 2 girls and they played either 4 singles and 2 doubles rubbers or 2 singles and 1 doubles with matches being played either home or away.

In the 10&U age group the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre won the girls division and the boys blue division, the 10&U boys purple division was won by St Hugh’s School.  St Hugh’s school entered the winter leagues for the first time and their enthusiasm meant that they completed the most fixtures of any club.

St Hugh’s School also went onto win the 12&U Boys blue division and were also runner up in the 12&U girls, with Woodstock Bowls & Tennis Club winning the division. Oxford Sports were victors in the 14&U Boys purple division.

There were two divisions for each of the mini red 8&U and mini orange 9&U age groups and these were all played at the White Horse Leisure & Tennis centre using the timed tennis format. Teams were mixed gender and made up of 4 players. Over the 4 days of the mini red and mini orange events over 200 matches were played.

The mini red blue division was won by Oxford Sports LTC and the mini red purple division by North Oxford LTC. In the orange event the victors in the purple division were Virgin Active Oxfordshire Health & Racquets club and White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre won the mini orange blue division.
