Bradley Marriott claimed both the Boys 18&U and 16&U Singles Titles at the Oxfordshire Junior County Closed in a week of great Tennis at North Oxford LTC. Having beaten Tim McLarty 6/2, 6/1 in the 16&U Final Bradley was made to really work for a 6/3, 0/6, 7/5 win the 18&U Final against Ben Calnan.
Meanwhile, in the Girls 18&U and 16&U Events honours were even with Georgina Todd taking the older age group and the result being reversed in the 16&U's with Grace Lymer-Sullivan this time running out winner.
Another 'double' finalist was Patricia Valimaa who won the Girls 12&U Tournament, beating Oliva Jagger 6/0, 6/0. However, in the age group above she lost out to Sophie Marriott who claimed the title with a 6/1, 6/0 victory.
The Boys 14&U Champion was Sebastian Rey who triumphed over Tom Dyakowski 6/2, 6/2. Whilst in the 12&U Event Charlie Smith was crowned champion with a 6/1, 6/4 victory over Ben Smith.
With the 8&U and 9&U Events being played the weekend before the Boys 10&U Champion for 2009 was Harrison Ridge who overcame Sam Heath 4/1, 5/4(7) and the Girls 10&U Winner was Asha Badiani who beat Molly Naylor 4/1, 4/0 in the Final.
Despite the mixed weather conditions thorughout the week the matches were all completed in bright sunshine on Finals Day. John Golding, Tennis Development Manager, commented "There was some great Tennis all through the week that was played in a good spirit. Great credit should go to Neil Allen as Referee and his Team that the Event finished on time and as smoothly as possible despite some challenging weather."
The event was rounded off by a presentation introduced by John Harrop, a former President of Oxfordshire LTA, and completed by Mark Wilkinson, Chairman of host Club, North Oxford LTC. The Final award of the day given by Neil Allen for "The player(s) who during the week of the tournament has displayed true sportsmanship through triumph and adversity" and was awarded to Molly and Tom Geach.
