Oxfordshire players were well placed amongst the 200 plus competitors at the North Oxford Junior Open Tournament who came from over 20 Counties around the Country.
There were some stunning displays of excellent tennis well worthy of the tournament’s recently upgraded status. That the Tournament finished on time, despite some appalling weather during the week, was a great credit to the excellent work done all week by Tournament Referee, Alison Jackson.
In the face of strong competition from the out of county players, Oxfordshire players were nevertheless well represented in the roll of honour. Brad Marriott from Botley took the U16 Boys’ title as well as coming runner up in the U18 Boys’ singles and U18 boys doubles events, the latter with partner Joshy Richards from Warborough. Cumnor’s Georgina Todd won the U16 girls’ event, and Oxfordshire players took a clean sweep in the U14 boys with Seb Rey from Wantage defeating Giles Waterson in the final. Asha Badiani from Kidlington was the winner of a marathon U10 Girls’ final, eventually overcoming her opponent in a match tie break.
Other Oxfordshire successes were Charlie Naylor, runner up in the U12 Boys singles, Bethany Nagle runner up in Girls’ U11s, James Bourdon and Henry Batstone the U11 finalists, Harrison Ridge runner up in the U10 Boys and Tom Geach and Ben Smith runners up in the U14 Boys Doubles.
