Oxfordshire coaches Ryan Trickey and Andy Aitken yesterday successfully completed their challenge to break the Guiness World Record for the longest continuous singles match.
They started their quest at 9am on Monday 8th August at the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre, Abingdon and finished 72 hours later at 9am on Thursday 11th August.
The previous Guiness World Record stood at 60 hours, 59 minutes and 58 seconds and was set in the United States in March 2011.
During the challenge they were allowed a 90-second break when they swapped ends after each odd game, and a two-minute break after each set. They also had an average break of five minutes per hour and were allowed to take 30 minutes out every six hours.
On finishing Ryan said; "We're tired but happy we've completed the challenge."
Andy and Ryan were completing the challenge to raise money for the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust. The charity supports disabled tennis players with equipment, coaching and facilities.
You can still sponsor them by either text 'tennis' to 70007 (It will cost £3 plus the standard message rate, but £2.40 will go directly to the charity) or you can donate online by visiting the website www.justgiving.com/longestsinglestennismatch
