Portcullis Tennis Festival 2011

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Thursday 9th June 2011 was a gorgeous sunny day where 4 schools descended on the Wallingford sports park to take part in the Portcullis Tennis Club Festival. There were just over 200 children participating (aged 7-9 years old) from Local Wallingford Schools, St.Johns, Crowmarsh Gifford, Fir Tree and Brightwell where tennis fever hit Portcullis Tennis Club in a big way!

It was an action packed day filled with a mini tennis tournament, fun filled skills and tennis skills where each and every player competed to earn as many points for their school as possible in order reign champion at the end of the day! While at the festival children were taught vital technical and tactical tennis skills in order to better their game, but most of all enjoy the day! We saw great effort from everyone on the day showing off their tennis skills.

After scorching hot weather and 2 and half hours later the points were tallied and result were in. It was celebrations for Crowmarsh School scoring a staggering 760 points over the day! The results were as follows Crowmarsh Gifford 760 points, Brightwell 713 points, Fir Tree 564 points and St.John’s 468 points.

There were 3 hard working winners for the awards for Player of the Tournament, Boy’s Player of the Festival and Girls Player of the Festival. Congratulations to Matt Webber (Brightwell), Harry Skilling (St.John’s) and Sky (Brightwell) for the outstanding efforts over the course of the day.

Finally, a big thank you for all the hard work from coaches, Nick Elliott, Ed Isard, School Sports Partnership Co-ordinator Harriet Thomas, our Wallingford School Sports leaders, Teachers and Teaching Assistants of whom played a vital role in ensuring that the day went as well as it did. We hope this is the start of many more festivals for the future.
