Unseeded Thomas Bowden (North Oxford) won the Men’s singles championships at the SeniorCounty Closed last week after beating 8th seed Paul Butcher (Virgin Active) in the final.

Bowden had already beaten the 1st, 4th and 7th seeds on the way to the final to secure the title for a second time 6-3, 6-2.

Butcher gained his revenge by pairing up with Harry Brown (also Virgin Active) and won the Men’s doubles title from Bowden and Christian Petersen from North Oxford. It was a very close affair with Butcher & Brown coming back after losing the first set 6-7(5) winning the second and decider 6-4 6-3.  Peter Bretherton, the LTA President was there to present the cup to the Virgin Active pair.

The Mixed final was also close with Anneka Smith (Virgin Active) and Andy Firth (David Lloyd) losing 4-6 against Roger Maris (Abingdon) and Ana Coggon (Cholsey) before winning the next two 6-2 6-3.  Mixed Doubles finalists

Good planning helped the tournament during an awful week of weather.  Referee Alison Jackson managed to arrange all matches to be played on the indoor courts at White Horse, Abingdon.
