Oxfordshire Junior County Closed 2012

The Oxfordshire Wilson County Closed came to an end on a sunny Saturday at North Oxford Tennis Club, although players had to cope with autumnal conditions during the week. 

This was the first year for new event organiser Andrew Parsons, but sadly the last for Neil Allen, who has refereed the event for the past 10 years.  Each year the Referee awards the ‘John Parsons’ trophy for the fair play in the event.  In his last year Neil addressed the crowd and advised that there was a long shortlist but awarded the trophy to Ollie Crossley.  Ollie had been an enthusiastic participant, and when knocked out, an enthusiastic supporter all week.

Notable achievements for the week include:

• Tom Dyakowski and Giles Waterson competing the U16 and U18 finals with Tom coming out on top. Great for the younger players to see our national standard older juniors competing in the County competition.
• Evie Phillips for winning 12&U girls singles and doubles (and runner-up in the mixed)
• Harrison Ridge for winning 14&U boy singles and mixed doubles (and runner-up in the doubles)
• The Manson family for Arthur, runner-up in 8&U boys, Grace winning the 8&U girls and Louis winning 12&U boys, doubles and mixed events

Andrew Parsons, who had clearly put in a lot of work this week, was thrilled the event went so smoothly and was already thinking of improvements for 2013.  Player numbers were similar overall to the previous year with growth in numbers competing in the 8&U’s and the doubles events.
