As CEO of Tennis Scotland, the main objectives are to increase participation and grow the sport’s profile and performance by the development of the game across all ages and abilities, thus ensuring the sport and clubs thrive for years to come. Executive Assistant providing effective and professional support to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Non-Executive Board of Directors. Main priorities within this role is to assist in the planning, development and implementation of strategic projects with a clear understanding of the financials and reporting structures. Denise has significant experience working in sport and international Events having been a key member of the support team with Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and also with the Rio2016 Olympic Games working alongside the Senior Infrastructure Lead for the IOC across competition, non-competition and training venues. Most recent role in Sport was with Scottish Golf based in St Andrews.

 

Colin Fleming
National Coach (Consultant)

As a Top 20 ATP Doubles specialist and former GB Davis Cup player, Colin has brought real gravitas and insight to the Tennis Scotland Performance Team and Programme in his role as National Coach. He is held in very high regard across the performance tennis network and the wider tennis community.

The National Coach role is diverse and on the back of winning bid for a GB NATIONAL ACADEMY, Colin will be freed up to offer more support in the establishment and development of the Academy than previously. This will be done via a contracted role rather than as full time National Coach.

Doc joined the Tennis Scotland team in August 2014 from Scottish Rugby where he worked in a development capacity in the East of Scotland.  He heads up Tennis Scotland's development team which aims to get more people playing tennis, more often.

Jason Atkins

Jason joined the Tennis Scotland team in December 2017. His role involves working closely with the National Coach and National Pathway Coach on the Performance Programme, including the GB National Tennis Academy at the University of Stirling, Regional Player Development Centre and the Tennis Scotland National Player Programme and associated partnership agreements. Jason is involved in leading staff, managing budgets and operational activity associated with Tennis Scotland performance programmes. Jason has considerable experience working in performance sport from his roles with the University of Stirling and Bournemouth University particularly institutional scholarship programmes and national projects in Winning Students and the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS). Jason has also managed medal winning British Representative teams at the World Universities Championships and Games, as well as captaining English Universities at Home Nations events. Jason also coached for Scottish Universities and English Universities South. Jason is on the BUCS Tennis Sports Advisory Group. Jason represented Scottish Universities at cricket and football.

Ellinore is our National Pathway Coach Working with players and their coaches to support the tennis programme to enable players to fulfil their potential and achieve at national and international level.

We aim to establish and consolidate a clear and communicable pathway through each District onto the Performance Pathway for players, parents and coaches and support the Local and Regional player development centres provide a programme for the players with the desire to improve and compete.

As part of this programme we will deliver the Tennis Scotland National Programme involving regular camps and tournament support for our players.

Mat has been with Tennis Scotland for the last 20 years and is the point of contact for Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Protection for Tennis in Scotland. His role involves supporting clubs and everyone involved in tennis to ensure the protection of children and adults. He works closely with all our partners Safeguarding teams as well as external agencies and where necessary police and social services.

Mat has worked in tennis industry for over 40 years initially in the commercial sector, and as a self-employed coach. In his time with Tennis Scotland he has gained a lot of experience in management of cases and has attended many training courses in this field. Mat is a Level 5 qualified Accredited+ coach and also a qualified Tutor/Assessor for the delivery of Coaching Level 1 and 2 courses as well delivery of TS, LTA and Local Authority Safeguarding workshops.

Mike is now responsible for Competitions, Mike previously worked as the Regiional Development Manager for the West, which includes working with clubs, Local Authorities, facility development and competitions. Mike also has the national lead for Tennis Products which includes the Tennis For Kids Programme and Great British Tennis Weekend. Mike has worked across all areas of tennis development from club coach, performance coach positions to development roles including Local Authority Development Officer and Racquets Manager at David Lloyd (formerly Esporta)

Mike Currently plays tennis for the West of Scotland County and has won the Scottish Cup with his local club team on 4 occasions

Kirsty Humphries

Kirsty joined the tennisscotland team in January 2016 as one of our regional development managers covering Central (Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire) and the Highlands (Moray, Highland, Shetland, Orkney and Eilean Siar). On top of her regional remit, Kirsty leads our educational support offer for schools, colleges and universities, working closely with the LTA and the tennis foundation to develop engagement and increase the reach of tennis across the education sector.

Kirsty values the power of sport and the people that drive it, believing volunteers and communities change the world. She feels her engagement in sport and positive role models as a junior kept her focused at school and onward to university. Professionally, Kirsty has built a career in both private and public sectors, beginning after graduation when she secured fast-track entry as a business manager within a FSTE 100 company. Ten years (and "a moment of clarity") later, Kirsty found herself following her passion back into sport and leading the development and delivery of the local authority physical activity strategy and annual sports plans across five sports, of which tennis had the greatest growth. This included the regeneration of two major park sites, the largest schools programme in the country and a world record. Kirsty is a PRINCE2 Project Management practitioner and a member of the Chartered Institute for management of sport and physical activity.

Mike is Regional Development Manager for Tayside, Fife and Grampian. Mike provides professional support to key stakeholders, including clubs, local authorities, schools and FE/HE institutions, in order to grow the sport across the region. He is also the national lead for key community projects, including Scotland’s Tennis For Free programmes. Mike joined the Tennis Scotland team in 2016 from Glasgow Life, where he spent 10 years as the city’s Tennis Development Officer. In that time, Mike led a 1.5m community tennis project, responsible for redeveloping 4 community tennis facilities, and driving community participation to record levels in 2015. In addition to expertise in sports development, Mike also has experience in event management, including his time with 2014 Commonwealth Games team in Glasgow. Mike is a Level 3 Tennis Coach with experience in a variety of different settings, from parks tennis programmes to a spell at the Sanchez-Casal Tennis Academy in 2004

Stuart is the Regional Development Manager (East) covering Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders with a national lead remit for clubs. Stuart started with Tennis Scotland in 2016, prior to this Stuart studied Law and Sports at The University of Stirling before starting his professional career working as Tennis Development Officer with East Lothian Council, as the local authority went through its biggest development in tennis for a generation. Stuart is a passionate believer in the power of sport to change and benefit people’s lives. Stuart volunteers at Barnton Park LTC where he has played since he was a junior, he also captain’s the mens 1st team.

Andrew supports the development of Tennis in the South West of Scotland as well as being the lead on Disability.  The main focus is to increase participation in Tennis by supporting clubs and local authorities to make Tennis available to all. Andrew has been involved in tennis development for over 20 years, before starting his role at Tennis Scotland in 2011 his previous roles included Tennis Development Officer for Glasgow City Council and Racquets Manager for Next Generation clubs.
