One of the country’s most experienced referees has been named as Tennis Scotland’s Official of the Year for 2017.
White Badge qualified referee Gill Milne, in addition to officiating at a number of higher grade Scottish tournaments organised by the governing body, also looks after LTA staged events including ITF and Tennis Europe tournaments.
Tennis Scotland’s Doc McKelvey agrees that Gill is a worthwhile recipient of the award. “Her outstanding knowledge of the Rules of the game and consistent common-sense approach at events has won her the respect of most players and parents and any event Gill is appointed to is in safe hands."
“Gill’s awareness of the changing rules and regulations of events is excellent and she attends appropriate workshops and conferences to learn and to provide her experience to other officials."
“At a time when parents demand consistency in the decisions taken by officials at tournaments, Gill provides this in a calm, firm but friendly manner and, at larger events, leads a team of court supervisors by example.”
Gill commented on her award stating, “I have been very involved with Scottish tennis in various capacities over many years and I am happy to officiate in Scotland whenever possible. I am delighted to have been chosen as Official of the Year”.
