The North East of Scotland (NESLTA) Junior District team, which won the Kilgraston event in 2017 for the first time in two decades, has been named as the Tennis Scotland Team of the Year.
The tournament, which is played during the Easter school holidays, saw Team NESLTA win the 18 & under age group, as well as finishing as overall champions and non-playing captain Matt Kerswell was proud of the youngsters who helped win the title for the first time since 1997.
“This was a massive achievement for the NE team which trains in Aberdeen. The result is a product of a very good system and ‘team culture’ within the training squads which was brought to the event.
“Historically, the traditional strong counties of the East and West of Scotland are favourites and normally come away with the win but we knew if our team performed and worked together, we believed an upset could be possible.
“This was a huge win which was recognised locally having won ‘Team Performance of the Year’ at the Aberdeen Sports Awards.”
