Congratulations to the North of Scotland men’s team which won the 2017 35 & Over Inter-County Championship at Eastbourne this weekend.
Winners in 2016 and Tennis Scotland’s team of the year, North won three out of three matches to successfully defend its title. West of Scotland, newly promoted to the top division, lost all three of its matches and will be relegated to Division 2 in 2018. In Saturday’s all Scottish contest, North’s Jason Barnett and Graeme Darlington won both singles rubbers against West’s Ronnie Terras and Jordan Gray. West had some consolation as it took the doubles rubber with Calum McKnight and Colin Taylor beating Owen Hadden and Mark Malcolm.
East of Scotland were unlucky to be relegated from Division 3 after an opening day 2-1 victory over Cambridgeshire. South of Scotland won 4 out of 5 matches in Division 6 and will be promoted to Division 5 next season.
