A round-up of some of the action involving Scottish players last week
US Open Qualifying Success for Norrie
After the news that Andy Murray has pulled out of the US Open, Scotland will still be represented in the single’s draw at the US Open with Cameron Norrie producing a dominant display in the qualifying rounds.
The world No 226 beat 7th seed Alexander Bublik (KAZ), who is ranked over 100 places above Cameron, in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of qualifying. In the second round Cameron saw off Sekou Bangoura (USA) 6-4, 7-5 and then disposed of world No 131 Go Soeda in another straight sets victory in the final round.
This will be Cameron’s first appearance at the Flushing Meadows where he has been drawn against Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov in the first round.

Nike Junior National Tennis Championships 2017
12 Scottish Juniors were involved in the Nike Junior National Tennis Championships last week. Nine travelled to Nottingham with National Coach, Colin Fleming to take part in the 14U, 16U and 18U competitions, and a further three travelled with Derek Croll to take part in the 12U event in Bournemouth.
In the 12U draws, Ben Hudson produced the best displays, by reaching the semi-final of the consolation draw where he lost to the eventual winner in a 3rd round tie break.
In the 14U draw, Sam Macleod performed extremely well reaching the semi-final stage of the consolation draw where he lost to the 4th seed. In the doubles Lucia Rizza reached the semi-finals with her partner Mary Hoggard losing out to the 2nd seeds and eventual winners, Millie-Mae Matthews and Andrea Pineda. Andrea also won the 14U girls singles event.
After a fabulous win in Poland the week prior to the championships, Jacob Fearnley and Connor Thomson carried on their brilliant form into the 16U double's draw however narrowly missed out on a place in the final after losing 10-7 in the 3rd set tie break to the 2nd seeds Matthew Clegg and Alexander Maggs.In the 16U singles draw Harry Mouratidis got through his first round match only to be drawn against the top seed and eventual winner Harry Wendelken. Patrick Young also made it through his first round match however narrowly lost his 2nd round match.
In the 18U draw, James McKinlay got through the first round with a comfortable victory, however then lost out to 10th seed Bradley Buckland over 3 sets.
