A round-up of some of the action involving Scottish players last week

ITF Grade 1 win for Jacob Fearnley in Russia

Jacob Fearnley won his first ITF Grade 1 tournament at the weekend with a number of notable performances throughout the week to lift the Yeltsin Cup in Russia.

The Merchiston Castle student had to overcome five of the top 16 seeds to take the title.

In the first round Jacob beat Russian R.Ibragimov 7-5, 6-3 before dropping his only set of the tournament in his 2nd round defeat of 13th seed N.Dica (ROM). He then went on to beat the Russian 4th seed N.Vylegzhanin, who is ranked over 100 places above him 6-4, 7-5, to take his place in the Quarter-Finals. There he played the 11th seed S.Fomin (UZB), winning the match 7-5, 6-1. In both the semi-final and final, Jacob faced French opposition, beating M.Erhard 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-final and then 8th seed V.Royer in a very solid 6-3, 6-1 victory, to lift the trophy.

Jacob will be looking to replicate his fantastic win when he plays in the Grade 3 in Russia this week.

Connor Thomson also featured in the tournament however lost out in the first round 6-7, 5-7 to T.Dudek of Poland.

First ATP Challenger Trophy of 2018 for O'Mara

Jonny O’Mara lifted his first ATP Challenger Tour trophy of the year after he and partner Scott Clayton won a thrilling final against L.Grigelis (LTU) and A.Motti (ITA) in Bergamo, Italy.

The pair won their first round tie 6-3, 7-6 before beating the 2nd seeds R.Arneodo (POL) and T.Weissborn (AUS) with another 6-3, 7-6 win. In the semi-final they then went on to beating the 4th seeds R.Junaid (AUS) and I.Zelenay (SVK) in a match tiebreak  3-6, 7-6 [10-8).

The final was played in front of a large crowd who enjoyed a nail biting match that Jonny and Scott won on a closely fought match tiebreak, winning 5-7, 6-3 [15-13].

Futures Doubles Final for Duncan

Scott Duncan reached the Doubles final of the Futures event in Tunisia.

The University of Stirling student, who teamed up with fellow Brit Jonathan Binding won their first round match 6-2, 6-3 before receiving a walkover against the top seeds in the Quarter-final. The pair then won their semi-final on a match tiebreak beating N.Arreche (ARG) and A.Merino (PER) 7-5, 1-6 [10-3]. Their great run came to an end in the final losing out to the French pairing of S.Boltz and M.Martineau 6-2, 6-2.

Semi Final for Jamie Murray in Rio

Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares reached the semi-final of the Rio Open in Brazil. The pair won their first round match 6-3, 6-1 and then won their Quarter-final against R.Jebavy (CZE) and L.Mayer (ARG) 6-3, 6-4. In the semi-final however they lost out to eventual title winners D.Marrero and Fernando Verdasco of Spain 6-4, 6-4.
