Jessika Ponchet and Antione Escoffier formed a new alliance to provide more French sporting success in Glasgow today.
Women’s singles fifth seed Ponchet was ruthless in her morning contest with unseeded Georgian Mariam Bolkvadze. Ponchet, conqueror of Glaswegian Maia Lumsden in Saturday’s semi-final, required just 59 minutes to cruise to an ultimately comfortable 6-3 6-1 win.
Afterwards, the 22-year-old said: “It was my first time playing in Glasgow and it’s definitely been a great week for me with hard matches ever day.
“It’s my favourite surface, hard indoor, it’s fast and I have a big service so that’s helped a lot.”
Escoffier then made it a French double, the second seed defeating German Jeremy Jahn (6) in a closer contest, winning the first set 6-2 before edging a close tiebreak in the second (8-6).
