Edinburgh Schools, Merchiston Castle and George Watson’s College have won the boys and girls Scottish Secondary Schools Tennis Team Champions respectively.
After the semi-finals took place at a damp St George’s School for Girls in Edinburgh on Thursday 8th June, due to the adverse weather conditions it was decided that the finals were to be rearranged for another suitable date.
After defeating Robert Gordon’s College in the semi-final, Merchiston Castle faced The High School of Glasgow in the final after The High School of Glasgow got the better of Mackie Academy in the other semi-final. The final was played at Craiglockhart Tennis Centre where Merchiston ran out 6-0 winners. Merchiston have now won the trophy for the last five years.
Meanwhile in the girls draw George Watson’s beat Beaconhurst to reach the final and faced fellow Edinburgh school, The Mary Erskine School in the final after Mary Erskine’s edged passed High School of Dundee in their half of the draw. The final was again played at Craiglockhart Tennis Centre with George Watson’s College coming out worthy winners with a final score, 5-1.
