Scottish Junior Indoor Doubles Championships

Monday, March 13, 2017

Following the recent success of Scotland's Jamie Murray in tour doubles events and reaching No.1 in world rankings and the appointment of doubles specialist Colin Fleming as National Coach, Tennis Scotland has resurrected the Junior Indoor Doubles Championships in 2017. This event will be the final leg of Tennis Scotland's series of Indoor Championships this winter which has staged events for players from 12 & Under to 70 & Over.

Jamie Murray commented on the news that the tournament was returning, saying "Great to see the Scottish Junior Indoor Doubles Championships back on the map. Doubles is a great way for kids to enjoy tennis and it's always fun to be part of a team. Good luck to everyone involved and I hope it's a fun weekend!"

National Coach Colin Fleming, a former British professional tennis player, made his debut in the Great Britain Davis Cup team in 2009, losing against Ukraine but then won eight successive matches to help Great Britain into the World Group. He also won his doubles match in the World Group quarter final against Italy. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, he won the mixed doubles gold medal with Jocelyn Rae for Scotland.

Colin reached 19 ATP Tour doubles finals in his career, winning 8 of them. In 2011, he had his best doubles Grand Slam results, reaching the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, and then two months later matching it at the US Open.

Leading up to the entry deadline, Colin said "It's great to see the return of the Scottish Junior Indoor Doubles Championships as doubles is such a great feature of our sport. It's great fun playing as a team and also plays an important role in the skill development of our aspiring players. Good luck to all the teams involved and remember the first rule of doubles – pick a good partner!"

Boy's and girl's events will be played at the 14 and 18 & Under age groups on Saturday 1st April and at the 12 and 16 & Under age groups on Sunday 2nd April. Online entries close at 10 am on Friday 17th March with both players in a pair having to make an online entry. The tournament code is WSC17S0003
