The Winter County Cup drew to a close at the weekend with the East of Scotland men’s and women’s teams topping their groups and receiving promotion in the process.
In the men’s draw, the East and North competed in Group 4A with the pair and the Channel Islands all finishing on the same number of points. The North beat the East in their head to head game 5-4 however ultimately the group was decided by the result of the match between East and the Channel Islands –a narrow 5-4 win to the East.
West of Scotland played in Group 4B, coming 2nd in the group beating Cambridgeshire, and Durham and Cleveland, but losing out to Staffordshire who topped the group.
South of Scotland had some tough matches in Group 6B losing out to Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
In the Women’s draw East of Scotland went undefeated to top Group 6A with wins over the Channel Islands, Oxfordshire and a 9-0 win over the Isle of Man.
Like their male counterparts the North of Scotland female team were also tied at the top of their group, only to lose on the number of rubbers won. They beat the North of Wales and Cornwall but lost out to group winners Lincolnshire.
West of Scotland came 2nd in Group 5B beating Herefordshire & Worcestershire as well as Gloucestershire, but lost out to group winners Shropshire
South of Scotland lost out to Cumbria, Northamptonshire and Suffolk in Group 6B
