Doubles Success for Scottish Pair
Connor Thomson won the Junior Doubles at the Dubai ITF Junior Championships last week. Connor teamed up with Spanish junior Alvaro Bueno Gil to take the title after a tense final where they won in a match tie-break 6-4, 4-6, 11-9. This was Connor’s 4th ITF Doubles title of the year after he won two Nike Junior events and another event in Poland earlier in the year.
Connor also reached the semi-final of the singles event, however lost out to the No.1 seed and eventual winner Eric Vanshelboim (UKR) 6-4, 7-5.
Maia reached the final of the last ITF Aegon GB Pro-series event in Shrewsbury last week with playing partner and fellow Brit Katie Swan. The pair lost out in a tie-break in an all British affair against Freya Christie and Harriet Dart 6-3, 4-6, 6-10.
Maia has been in fantastic form over the last few weeks, winning the singles and doubles in Sunderland as well as a doubles win in the Wirral the week prior. After her final at Shrewsbury, Maia raced home to compete in the Tennis Scotland Open Tour finals to try and make it 4 titles in 3 weeks.
