A round-up of some of the action involving Scottish players last week.
Title for Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett
Gordon Reid and doubles partner Alfie Hewett claimed their first UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters title together in Holland. The Wimbledon and US Open champions topped their qualifying group with wins over J.Gerard (BEL) & S.Olsson (SWE) 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, F.Cattaneo (FRA) & E.Maripa (RSA) 6-0, 6-1, and K.Fabisiak (POL) & M.Legner (AUT) 6-4, 6-1.
The pair then got passed G.Fernandez (ARG) & M,Scheffers (NED) to take on French top seeds S.Houdet and N.Peifer, in arguably the most memorable match between the four this year. The French pair won the first set 6-1 and were 2-0 up in the second after a 12 minute long game. Reid and Hewett fought back however, winning four games in a row and taking the second set 6-4. The deciding set was much of the same with Reid and Hewett winning 7-5 to take the title.
Reid commented after the game saying “It was another tough one. We never do it the easy way against the French guys it seems, but it was great to pull through in the end and win our first Doubles Masters title together.”

Semi-final for Aidan in Mexican Grade 1
Aidan McHugh reached the semi-final of the Grade 1 Yucatan Cup in Mexico. Aidan didn’t drop a set in his first three matches winning 6-4, 6-0; 7-5, 7-6; and 6-1, 6-3. In the Quarter-Finals he faced Thiago Agustin Tirante (ARG) a player ranked in the top 30 in the world. After a set a piece Tirante retired putting Aidan through to face the top seed Chun Hsin Tseng in the semi-final. The top seed ranked 18th in the world proved too strong winning 6-1, 6-4.

Juniors featue in Nike Junior International Liverpool
A number of Scottish juniors featured at the Nike Junior International Liverpool last week. James Mackinlay was the best performing junior reaching the final of the Boy’s doubles, losing in a nail biting 3rd set tie break 4-6, 7-6, 10-8. James partnered up with Rahul Dhokia, deafeating the 3rd seeds from Spain in the Quarter Final.
Connor Thomson reached the 2nd round of the singles competition as well as the QF of the doubles, Milly Wood qualified through to the girl’s main draw, and Charlie Miller, and Chloe Compson also featured at the qualifying stages.
