20 year old Anna Brogan showed that she has lost none of her competitive spirit as she won the Aegon British Tour at her own club Newlands in Glasgow on Sunday. The 20 year old won through five rounds of matches, beating four seeded players on the way, to win the women’s title. In the final, Brogan beat Kira Reuter 6-4 7-5, the Cambridgeshire junior having upset the top seed Laura Sainsbury in Sunday morning’s semi-final. The Scot’s toughest match was at the quarter-final stage when she fought back from 3-7 in the match tie-break third set against Northumberland’s Grace Dixon before winning 6-1 3-6 [10-8].
Devon’s Robert Leck won the men’s championships beating Edinburgh’s James Mackinlay 6-4 6-4 in the final. Leck, currently studying at Stirling University, justified his top seeding by not dropping a set throughout three days of play and adding the British Tour title to his Scottish Nationals men’s singles championship won at Craiglockhart in May. 17 year old Mackinlay, seeded 6, battled through three three-set matches to reach Sunday’s semi-final stage where he upset fourth seed Joseph Newman-Billinton in straight sets to reach the final.
