The Newlands club in Glasgow hosts an Aegon British Tour event this weekend – the last Grade 2 event in Scotland this season.
Robert Leck, the current Scottish National champion, heads a strong men’s entry list. The 19 year old from Devon, currently studying in Stirling, will meet the winner of the first round tie between Scotland’s Jamie Martin and Ali Al Hassan at 11 am on Saturday. James MacKinlay is the highest ranked Scot in the draw. The Edinburgh player, who reached the semi-final of last week’s British Tour event in Exeter, faces 15 year old Charlie Miller of the host club in a first round tie scheduled for 9.30 am on Friday.
There are 10 Scots in a full women’s draw which is headed by 21 year old top seed Laura Sainsbury from Bristol, world ranked 922. Chloe Compson, selected for Scotland’s 18 & Under team at last month’s Four Nations’ championships, plays 8th seed Nell Arendt in Friday’s opening round whilst the host club’s Anna Brogan, returning to competition after a break, faces Eleanor Scarff from Wales, seeded 6th at 5 pm on the same day.
Play starts on the three days of competition at 9.30 am with semi-finals and finals of both men’s and women’s competitions scheduled for Sunday 15th October.
