A round-up of some of the action involving Scottish players last week.

Doubles Delight for Jacob Fearnley in Pontevedra
Jacob Fearnley has won the Boys Doubles at the ITF Grade to in Pontevedra, Spain. Jacob and his partner Leonid Sheyngezikht (BUL) stormed through the tournament with a number of convincing matches before going on to beat D.Wassermann and L. Weststrate from the Nederlands in the final 6-4, 7-5. Ewen Lumsden and his partner Jake Hersey reached the semi-final stage before losing to the Dutch pair that Jacob beat in the final.

In the Boy’s singles, Jacob and Connor Thomson lost out in the Qualifying rounds, while Ewen Lumsden reached the 16, losing out to the Number 1 seed and eventual winner Clement Tabur (FRA) 6-2, 6-2.

In the Girls draw Ali Collins reached the QF losing to 7th seed Giulia Morlet (FRA) 7-6, 6-2 and went one better in the Doubles with fellow Brit Gemma Heath by reaching the semi-finals. The 2nd seed however lost out to the 3rd seeds in a close fought loss 7-5, 7-6.

Jamie Murray and Soares Qualify for ATP World Tour Finals
Jamie Murray and partner Bruno Soares have qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals for the second successive year after reaching the semi-final of the Shanghai Masters. The pair lost out to top seeds and eventual winners Henri Kontinen (FIN) and John Peers (AUS) 7-6, 3-6, 10-4. The World Tour finals take place at the 02 Arena next month with Jamie likely to be the only British representative in the competition.

ITF Super Seniors World Championship Bronze for Scots Pair
5 Scottish players represented Britain at the Super Seniors ITF World Team Championships in Orlando, Florida last week, with 2 of them coming away with Bronze medals. Marjory Love was part of the GB Women’s 65s team which won bronze while Ruth Weston was part of the GB Women’s 75s which also won a bronze medal.


Other Scottish players who featured were Iain Cowper in the Men’s 70s, and Frances MacLennan and Christine Lockhart in the Women’s 70s.

Jonny reaches Challenger Semi-Final
Jonny O’Mara reached the semi-final of the Sparkasse Challenger with playing partner Scott Clayton. The pair beat Dustin Brown and Tim Puetz in the first round 7-6, 7-6 and then beat Thomasz Bednarek (POL) and David Pel (NED) 7-5, 7-6. In the semi-final they fell just short losing in a tense 3rd set tie break, with the final score 7-6, 5-7, 13-11 against Jeremy Jahn (GER) and Ednan Leshem (ISR). Jonny and Scott now move up to 159th in the world rankings.
