Local Club award for most Competing Juniors in Somerset

Friday, October 17, 2014

Frome Selwood Tennis Club has been awarded £774.44 by the Somerset County Committee of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) under a scheme designed to reward clubs with active and competing juniors. The Club has more Regularly Competing Juniors than any other club in the county, including much bigger venues like Taunton and Millfield School.

During the last 12 months, the number of actual Regularly Competing Juniors in Somerset has increased by nearly 10% to 494, and 97 of these are at Frome.

This award comes at just the right time as the club strives to raise funds for the proposed three new courts in Victoria Park.

John Price (Club Chairman) said that: "This is a tremendous result for our club and I must thank our Head Coach - Phil Lawton and his team for encouraging the juniors and working so hard to report the results to the LTA. It is only by encouraging juniors from all walks of life to compete as much as possible, that we will we see more Andy Murrays or Laura Robsons in the future".
