The Sussex Under 14 Girls team travelled to Lincoln for the qualifying round of the County Cup. Jojo Bach, Isabella Swann, Tiana Fox, Emily Gordon, Hannah Emerson and Olivia Stapley put on a fantastic display winning both matches in their box. They had a solid start with a win over Northamptonshire, followed by an incredible victory against the very strong Suffolk team.
On the final day of the qualifier the team faced Norfolk, who were very tough opposition but again the girls came out on top, securing their place in the national finals.
The girls travelled to Nottingham on May 14th to take part, with Alicia Dudeney and Katy Graydon joining the team. This was one of the youngest Sussex teams to have ever competed in the Under 14’s and their attitude and performance was fantastic. The girls lost their matches over the finals; some in incredibly tense fashion with painfully close tie break shootouts against Avon and Buckinghamshire.
Team captain Tim Cottingham stated ‘despite coming 8th, the attitude and the tennis they displayed shows that with another year of development this team of youngsters is going to be very strong.’
