Congratulations to the following players who gained an international ranking this year:
James Griffin
James achieved an international rankings by making the semi-finals of the ITF Corfu Cup in June, doubling up with Faris Gosea in the doubles. The pair beat Stergiou and Vakouftis from Greece 6-1 6-2. They beat Abdal and Reda from Kuwait in the quarter finals 7-5 6-3, before falling to eventual champions Panoulas and Pavlis from Greece who were also the Number 1 seeds.
Nick Jones
Nick, from Wrexham Academy qualified for the ITF Futures at Wrexham and then beat John Ramsbottom 6-2 7-6 (7-5) to gain his first ATP Point.
Francesca Lewis
Fran qualified for the three events required to gain the women's equivalent WTA Ranking: Edinburgh, Nottingham (following a victory over Lauren McMinn she succumbed to the rapidly improving Laura Robson) and Wrexham (beat Kathryn Hughes 6-4 7-5 and Daria Stiaholia from Russia before going out to Lina Stancute).
Matthew Story
Matthew gained a 14U Tennis Europe ranking in Stavanger, beating Loick Bruandet from France 6-3 6-1 in the final qualifying round. He then beat Ludvig Aaes from Denmark 6-0 6-2 before a tremendous battle with the top seed F. Schaefer from Norway, narrowly losing 3-6 6-2 5-7.
