The second of the Annual American tournaments between Mold and Prestatyn Tennis Clubs took place on Sunday 24th July at Prestatyn’s Gronant Road Tennis Club. The entry this year was significantly higher than the previous year indicating the popularity of this event in which club members of all standards can play and represent their club. Each pair from both clubs plays 7 games against each of the pairs from the opposing team.
The event proved to be extremely close with the lead changing throughout the day and after 8 hours of play and 700 games being played the eventual winners by a very narrow margin of just 4 games was Prestatyn LTC who will retain the Sage & Company Shield for a further 12 months. Cups for the pair winning the most games were presented to Ian Noonan and Stephanie Bell of Mold the deserved winners who finished the day 6 games ahead of their nearest rivals Jonathan Jones and Amy Khan-Ince and Matthew Sinnott and Emily Williams both pairs winning 56 games. On 10th July Ian and Stephanie were the winners of the Mixed Doubles event at the North Wales Open Tournament held at Prestatyn LTC.
