For the first time ever, the finals of Wimbledon, the premier tennis championships in the world will this year be filmed in 3D and screened live in High Definition 3D at Apollo cinemas in Carmarthen and Port Talbot.
Viewers can now enjoy the full centre court experience without the expense of having to travel to London. Both cinemas will be screening the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Semi-Finals and the Ladies’ and Men’s Singles Finals, transporting the atmosphere and excitement of the championships to South Wales!
In partnering with Apollo Sony will make every serve, smash and volley available to a larger audience than ever before. If you don’t fancy popcorn with your tennis, they are even looking to supply the Pimm's and ice-cream. (Cinemas with licensed bars only)
Michelle Flynn, Deputy General Manager at Apollo Cinema Port Talbot said: “We’re really excited to bring Wimbledon to our UK cinema audiences for the first time ever in live ‘easy on the eye’ 3D, creating an atmosphere that will be completely new and thrilling to our customers. Local cinema-goers can enjoy fantastic and engaging viewing experience with Sony’s technology, and should hopefully create a real community occasion in our cinemas.”
David McIntosh, Director, Sony, Europe, said: “This will be a truly unique experience – we’re working with local cinemas using Sony Digital Cinema 4K technology to create the best possible viewing experience, bringing, for the first time, Wimbledon live in the highest quality 3D available. “This exciting partnership clearly demonstrates Sony Digital Cinema’s commitment to providing premium and new content to audiences, and we’re certain that these live screenings will be a great new development in digital cinema 3D entertainment.”
