South Wales tennis star Josh Milton has made it into the top four of the Great Britain tennis rankings – the highest place for a Welshman in the last four decades.
Milton, from Rhoose, currently stands fourth in the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) men’s rankings behind Scotland’s Andy Murray and Englishmen, James Ward of Middlesex and Daniel Cox of Lancashire.
"Josh is now one of the very best players in Great Britain, and an opportunity to represent Great Britain in Davis Cup at some point is certainly a realistic goal for him,” said Tennis Wales chief executive Peter Drew.
Milton, aged 21, won the doubles final in the International Tennis Federation Futures tournament in Croatia with his Dutch playing partner Tim Van Terheijden earlier this year.
He also formed part of a two-man Wales team in last year’s Commonwealth Games and won last summer’s AEGON Pro Series event at Roehampton.
The last Welshman to achieve such a high ranking was Gerald Battrick of Bridgend, who long held the number three spot behind Mark Cox and Roger Taylor. Battrick played in two Davis Cups ties in 1971-72.
