Cardiff Plays Host to World-Class Tennis

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Cardiff hosts world class tennis this week when the AEGON GB Pro-Series takes place at the Virgin Active Cardiff Health & Racquets Club.

There is sure to be plenty of British interest with home grown players dominating the men’s entry list for the AEGON GB Pro-Series Cardiff event.

This year’s British entry will see Welshman Josh Milton return to the hard courts in his home town as Welsh number 1 and current world number 379.

Milton is joined by fellow Brits Dan Evans, Josh Goodall, Dan Cox and Alex Ward all inside the British top ten.

Italy’s Simone Vagnozzi adds overseas interest to the tournament as the top ranked player and currently ranked as 168 in the world.

Tournament Director Richard Joyner said: “It’s great to be returning to Wales for a professional tennis event. It always adds to the event to be able to showcase local talent such as Welshman Josh Milton.”

“The Men’s $15k event provides a great opportunity to see potential stars of the future close at hand, and free of charge.

“Last year’s final was won by Estonian Jurgen Zopp who beat Brit Dan Evans 6-4, 7-5.”

Qualifying is scheduled for Sunday 23 October and Monday 24 October. The Main Draw is scheduled to start on Tuesday 25 October with the singles final on Saturday 29 October.

Play is scheduled to start each day from 10.00am with free entry for spectators.
