Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club’s recent twinning with DonBosco Tennis Club, Nantes, France has kicked off successfully with the first exchange completed.
Recently named Club of the Year at this year’s Tennis Wales Awards, Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club saw over 30 players from DonBosco Tennis Club travel to Cardiff last weekend to meet the club’s members, see the sights of Cardiff and compete in an array of tennis activities, as organised by head coach John Williams. This marks the first official twinning event between the two clubs.
John Williams, head coach, Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club said it’s great that the first twinning event with DonBosco was so successful for both parties. He says: “We chose to twin with DonBosco in order to provide excellent opportunities for both our junior and senior teams. Not only were the matches very competitive for all involved, but everyone was able to gain something from competing and engaging with players from different cultures.
“It was especially beneficial for our junior players who have had little or no experience of competing against players of that standard outside of Wales.
“The first exchange comprised of an American style tournament, mix in sessions and an evening of entertainment with an Elvis tribute which was enjoyed by all.”
Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club chairman Paul Davies said: “I’d like to thank all players and volunteers of the club and of course John Williams for organising such a fantastic opening event for our twinning programme. The players from DonBosco had a fantastic time and we very much look forward to visiting them in Nantes in 2013 for a re-match.”
