Swansea Tennis Centre adopts Swansea Tennis Junior Championships

Thursday, August 01, 2013

TS365, Swansea Tennis Centre has taken over the reins of Swansea’s oldest and most prestigious Junior Tennis event.

The event, previously won by newly crowned Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, will be open to players from across the whole of the UK. It promises to be a fantastic spectacle with

Swansea Tennis Centre working in partnership with the council to put a fresh new element into the tournament to make the 70th championship the most memorable yet!

The event, previously held at Langland went through some difficult years recently with the deterioration of the courts at that location and a decline in entries as a result. It is hoped the Swansea Tennis Centre’s acquisition of the event can help turn its fortunes.

Swansea Tennis Centre which was once closed by the local authority in 2011 due to significant operating losses is now the most successful 4 indoor court venue in the UK under the guidance of Social Enterprise TS365 and General Manager Barry Cawte and his team.

Barry Cawte said “We are delighted to take on the running of this historic event. It is vital that this tournament is around for another 70 years as it allows so many players to compete. Events like these keep players motivated and in turn keep them coming through our doors”

Swansea Tennis Centre will offer its four indoor and four newly resurfaced outdoor courts for use and will organise, manage and facilitate the tournament, whilst Swansea Tennis and Squash Club have generously donated their Outdoor courts for use over the whole week.

The tournament will run from the 12th August through to the 17th August and will in-corporate mini, junior and senior events, both singles & doubles.
