Wales Represented at Mini Fed Cup

Monday, August 05, 2013

The mini fed cup event was held on Sunday 4th August at Nottingham tennis centre alongside the final of the women's $10,000 event.

The day was a huge success with the theme being based around girls in tennis and exposing them to what it feels like to play in the fed cup.

There were four teams: Scotland, Wales, Midlands and the North.

There were also 8 female midlands coaches that were invited to be part of the day with Judy and hear from key people involved in girls tennis (Judy, Ellinore Lightbody and Andy Barnes) along with some match charting.

The day started off with a bang as Judy delivered a very interactive on court skills warm up with the girls and coaches Then they had a talk about what the fed cup is and how it's played before the day begun!

Then we ran a round robin country play off with a difference! The girls played timed matches to the hooter for 15 minutes (serving every 5 points) in tie break scoring and it was the total number of points not the wins so that the players had to play for every point counted.

There was a great atmosphere as all players had to sit on the court with the team captains all the time to cheer and support.

The day finished off with Scotland taking the victory with 142 points then Wales 2nd with 111 points and the midlands and the north sharing joint equal 3rd with 100 points.

Next was some ball girl training from Richard before they then got the opportunity to ball girl the final.

Wales were represented by Erin Oelmann, Katie Land and Morgan Cross - well done girls!
