Tennis Wales has been recognised for its work to involve disabled children and adults in the sport.
The organisation, which governs tennis in Wales, gained the ‘Ribbon’ level Insport award for national governing bodies from Disability Sport Wales.
The Insport award scheme is designed to encourage and reward governing bodies which work to involve disabled people in their sport – as players, officials or coaches.
“It’s very gratifying to have our work recognised in this way,” said Pam Griffiths of Tennis Wales. “We are working with our partners to make sure more inclusive programmes are on offer, we have thriving wheelchair tennis and learning disability clubs and sessions.”
“Wales has some excellent wheelchair players and world-class players with learning difficulties, and we recently hosted a disability tennis roadshow in Wrexham.
“The ribbon is the first stage of the Insport award, and we are aiming to progress further up through the bronze, silver and gold awards.”
The Insport awards are based on a similar programme in Australia and are open to governing bodies of all sports in Wales.
