South Wales tennis pro Evan Hoyt has won both the singles and doubles titles at the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Futures tournaments in Tunisia.
In the singles, Hoyt, aged 20, from Llanelli, beat Kevin Grieksport of the Netherlands, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to win the Sportevasion ITF Futures Summer Tour title.
Earlier he beat Evan Ursu (Ukraine) 6-1, 6-3 in the first round, Nils Brinkman (Germany) 6-3, 6-2 in the second round, Matteo Tinelli (Italy) 6-0, 6-2 in the quarter final, and Antoine Bellier (Switzerland) 6-4, 6-2, in the semi final.
In the doubles, he teamed up with Tunisia’s Anis Ghorbel to beat French pair Theo Fournerie and Jonathan Kanar 6-2, 6-3 in the final.
In the first round they beat another French duo, Marceau Courtalon and Florian Simbozel, 6-3, 6-0; in the quarter final, they beat Germany’s Nils Brinkman and Jannis Kahlke, 6-1, 6-4; and in the semi final, they were awarded a walkover against Boris Fassbender and Antoine Monaco (France).
“This represents a great step up for Evan, having returned home to base himself in Wales for training,” said Tennis Wales performance manager, Ellinore Lightbody.
Tennis Wales chief executive, Peter Drew added: “Winning an ITF Futures title is a tremendous achievement, and winning at both singles and doubles is really special.”
