BBC SPORT WALES STORY - "James Story - The new Story of Welsh tennis"

Correct as of 9th December…

The month of November began in great fashion with a hat-trick of international doubles titles all over the world in the same week.  Evan Hoyt won his first ever challenger level doubles tournament in Australia, James Story won the grade 3 ITF junior event in France and Finn Murgett won the grade 4 ITF junior event in Finland.  All the finals took place over the same weekend and it was fantastic to convert all three finals into wins!

Evan had a number of strong performances in Tunisia in his final trip of the year.  He reached the QF and the SF of the two singles events and won another doubles title to finish off what has been a great year for him.  He will finish the year ranked in the top 450 players in the world.

James Story reached the semi-final of the singles ITF junior event in France winning his first three matches but narrowly missing out 76 76 in the semi-final.  He then went on to compete in the Grade 1 and Grade A ITF junior events in Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl respectively.

Liverpool hosted some international events in November with Morgan Cross reaching the semi-final of the first week and Megan Davies qualifying and reaching the quarter finals of the second week.  It was also a good couple of weeks in Liverpool for Finn Murgett who reached the semi-final of the singles in week one and won the doubles in week two.

Hugo Cochlin and Wil Jenkins will be competing in this year’s U14 Orange Bowl Championships in Florida.  It’s a chance for them to compete against some world class players from all over the world.  Famous winners in the past have included Tommy Haas, Juan Martin Del Potro, Andy Murray (U12s) and Justine Henin (U14s girls).  Wil starts in qualifying while Hugo has been accepted into the Main Draw.

The adult winter county cup events took place at the end of November at venues all over the country.  Congratulations to North Wales Men and South Wales Ladies who managed to stay in the divisions they were in.  South Wales Men and North Wales Ladies were relegated from their respective divisions.

Welsh player Viktor Frydrych represented GB 13&U team in an internation friendly in London Vs France, with an impressive 16-18 win.  Viktor also played a 12&U Tennis Europe in France at the beginning on November and won the Doubles title with partner Leo Cohen Bacrie from France.

Well done to Oliver Page who came 2nd and Archie Gray 3rd, in the 10&U LTA Winter National Tour event in Norfolk.

Good luck to all of the Welsh players who will be competing in the WNT events between Christmas and New Year in various places across the UK.
