On Saturday 6th February Warwickshire 18U Boys and Girls headed to Corby Indoor Tennis Centre, Northampton for the latest round of the 12 Counties Competition. The boy’s team consisting of Elliot Barnwell, Lloyd Glasspool, Jack Busby and John Keighley were all looking to impress and get some last minute competitive tennis in before the 18U AEGON County Cup in Essex.
The boy’s results were as follows:
Hertfordshire 0 - 4 Warwickshire
Cambridgeshire 2 – 2 Warwickshire
Yorkshire 0 – 4 Warwickshire
So a great weekend of tennis from the Warwickshire boys winning the 18U round for the county and a welcome 4 points towards the Warwickshire 12 Counties cause.
After seeing the success of the Boys team the Girls team although missing a few of the counties top stars were ready to go. The team consisting of Soumeya Anane, Alana Casey, Alaanah Griffin and Charlotte Gorst were also looking at putting in some competitive tennis before the AEGON U18 County Cup in Essex.
The girl’s results were as follows:
Hertfordshire 2 - 2 Warwickshire
Cambridgeshire 3 – 1 Warwickshire
Yorkshire 3 – 1 Warwickshire
Unfortunately even though the girls team performed admirably they could not repeat the success of the boys however they did enough to finish 3rd overall on the day and pick up a vital 2 points. After adding the totals from this round to the league Warwickshire now find themselves in 2nd place overall only half a point from Yorkshire in 1st place. With only the 10U and 16U events left to go it is sure to be a tight nail biting finale to the 12 Counties!
