Solihull Arden Tennis Club junior players have enjoyed a fantastic summer with some great results in the LTA’s Aegon Team tennis Competition:

The Mini Tennis Orange team C won their group and actually won one fixture 12-0. The team included George Sunderland, William Boles, Yash Machani and Priya Majevadia
The Mini Tennis Green team C comprised of some players who had not previously played competitive matches and all did really well. The team won 3 out of 4 matches and gained confidence with each result. Well done to Charlie Richardson, Jack Talbot, Luke Burnley, Kiah Louise Holness and Francesca Wiseman.
The Club has a successful Mini Tennis Programme which is headed up by coaches Steve Hayward, Nigel Smith and Ken Spensley assisted by Sam Teasdale
Full Ball teams
Three teams from Solihull Arden managed to qualify for the Aegon Premier Divisions.
The boys U14 squad were Luke Simkiss, Joseph Ellis, Karan Tumber, Jake Hersey, Cameron Maguire and Rob Yates.
The team lost a controversial first round fixture away to group runners up Corby, on a tiebreak shootout after having won 3 of the 4 singles matches.
Next up they played eventual group winners Nottingham Tennis centre, at home, their team included the current UK U14 number 1 and number 4 ranked players. Arden tied the singles 2 all but Nottingham won both doubles matches to win the fixture.
Solihull Arden then played a very strong Sutton Coldfield away, again as against Corby we won 3 of the 4 singles rubbers only to lose both doubles matches .Luckily this time we came through the deciding tiebreak shootout and won the fixture.
Finally the boys travelled to the Welsh National tennis centre and beat Cardiff by 5 matches to 1, Solihull won every singles match and the boys played very well.
The Arden U12 Premier team of Jake Hersey, Tom Thewall-Jones, Casey Recci, Rob Yates, Alex Maggs and Ben Brewster were extremely unlucky not to qualify for the finals in suffering only one defeat in the league stage to Loughborough 8-4 in which five out of six matches went to tie breaks.
The team endured two trips to Cardiff beating UWIC 12-0 and David Lloyd 10-2, and they also beat Tipton 12-0. Arden finished with the best team statistics by a mile barring the points dropped against Loughborough. Some terrific tennis was played, with the highlight being some fantastic doubles for the spectators.
Arden’s 12 & under B team reached the county box play offs. The team consisted of Alex Griffiths, Alex Nelson, Greg Janes and Jacques Thomas
They played Leamington who were a little older and more experienced. The boys played well and some great tennis was witnessed by all especially the doubles.
FANTASTIC RESULT FOR 16 & UNDER BOYS
On Sunday 22nd July Solihull Arden’s 16 & under Boys team won the National Final of the Aegon Competition in Roehampton. This is a fantastic result as at times Arden’s players were competing against boys sometimes 3 years older than them. Quite a few of the matches went to Championship tie breaks and all the boys should be congratulated!!!
The players involved, see photo attached, were Luke Oakley, Mason Recci, Joe Ellis and Karan Tumber . The other players involved in the previous rounds were James Taylor, Luke Simkiss and Troy Dixon.
Gary Naughton, the boys’ coach was lost for words!!! All he could say was that he was AMAZED and what a fantastic result this was for the Club.
