South Warwickshire Summer Tennis League - Junior Cup June Final Round

The fourth and final round of Junior Tennis Cup competition Pool matches, for the South Warwickshire & District Summer Tennis League have been completed during the month of June with the result that Henley-in-Arden A, Henley B, Littletons, HDA C Redditch, Shipston-on-Stour and HDA A Redditch all topped their respective groups and qualify for the Play-Offs at Bidford-on-Avon Tennis Club at 6pm on Monday 16th July, 2012..

In Pool A the Henley A pair Fraser Kent & Bradley Smith again proved too strong for their opposition beating all three teams, Snitterfield 6-3, Claverdon 6-1 and Harbury 6-0.  Snitterfield duo Alex Straker & Ben Albrecht took the honour of runners-up as they went on to defeat both Harbury 6-2 and Claverdon 6-1.  Claverdon's Jacob Fenwick & Ruben Astheimer, despite beating Harbury players George Tonge & Alex Sabin 6-2 on the night, finished behind them in the Pool by a point.

In Pool B despite Alcester A fielding a strong pair to win all three matches, it was Henley B who claimed the season's Pool title and march on to the Play-Offs.  Alcester A might have qualified if their pair had been able to play in the March and April Pools but that turned out to Henley B's benefit.  On the night Will Morley-Cotterill & Barney Williams for Alcester beat HDA B Redditch 6-2, Henley B 6-1, and finally Tanworth-in-Arden 6-0.  Henley B players Tom Dingley & Max Beishom did manage to beat HDA B 6-2 and Tanworth 6-0.  Lastly, HDA B brothers Nathan & Kieran Hawkins beat Tanworth 6-0.

The final Pool C night was postponed due to rain and finally had to be abandoned due to the inclement weather this month.  Littletons Juniors who were leading the Pool by three points and only needed to turn up to qualify anyway therefore took the title and the place in the Play-Offs. Alcester C finished runners-up three points adrift with 15, Evesham next on 9 and finally, Pershore with 8 points.

On to Pool D and the closest competition of the month, where Bidford Juniors finally found confidence and form to win all three of their matches.  Their duo of Cavan Farrow & Jake Connolly beat Alcester D 7-5, HDA C Redditch 7-5 and Inkberrow 6-1.  However, it proved too much, too late, as HDA C ran out season Pool winners and reached the Play-Offs.  Adam Neale & Kota Ueshima for HDA bounced back to defeat Inkberrow 6-3 and also Alcester D 6-3 in more well fought battles.  Finally, Alcester D pair Alex Turner & Ben Hawker overcame Inkberrow's Ed Littleboy & Angus Hardy 6-0.

Pool E saw the closest of finishes in the history of this junior competition.  The title was always going to be between current champions Shipston-on-Stour and Chipping Campden A, with the latter holding a slender lead going into this last Pool Night of the competition.  Shipston had won the March Pool, but Campden had come back to win the April and May Pools.  However, it was the fighting spirit of the Shipston pair Josh Brooks & Edward Briggs which saw them take the honours on the night and vital points beating all opposition 6-0 which proved crucial.  Fraser Griffiths & Felix James-Kraam were not giving up easily for Campden A and they beat Ilmington 6-2 & Campden B 6-0.  Ilmington's Ben Wilson & Matt Speechley had the consolation of a 6-0 score line over Campden B.  All this meant that both Shipston and Campden A finished equal top with 22 points and both having won 10 and lost 2 of their total matches.  It all came down to points difference and those 6-0 wins on the last night proved crucial as Shipston took the title with +45 to Campden's +41 leaving Shipston able to defend their title and appear yet again in the Play-Offs.

In the final Pool F another HDA team from Redditch topped this group comfortably and are the last team to qualify.  HDA A pair Matthew Cutler & Joseph Morris enjoyed a close victory over Alcester B team Tom Watson & Harriet Smith 6-4.  As Alcester were unable to field their E and F teams 6-0 walkovers were awarded to both teams present.  So HDA A topped the group with 23 points, with Alcester's B team on 19, E team on 12 and F team on 11.
