Warwickshire Men's team was up against it before we had even hit a ball. Many of Warwickshire’s players were unavailable through injury or had remained in the States on scholarships however this gave the opportunity for some of Warwickshire’s younger players to shine.
The Warwickshire county cup team consisted of Andrew Fitzpatrick, Steven Lee, Lloyd Glasspool, David O'Leary, Sundeep Ubhi Richard Westman and Oliver Plaskett.
Warwickshire were up against some real stiff competition in their division 2 matches with no real weak teams in the group.
The team throughout the 5 days of the tournament didn't actually play badly with close ties against Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Yorkshire and South Wales.
Warwickshire didn't even necessarily change partners throughout the week as everybody was feeling as if they were playing ok, we just didn't seem to play big points particularly well or take advantage of half opportunities.
This is perhaps evidence of a relative young team.
As the week wore on several players became injured and on Thursday O'Leary, Glasspool and Ubhi were unable to play so there was no alternative but to roll back the year’s and put myself into the team. Despite Warwickshire’s valiant efforts, great team spirit, and many packets of ibuprofen by a narrow margin we were demoted to Division 3.
However we do feel confident that next year we should go straight back up as our young team will be more experienced and know what to expect with hopefully some of Warwickshire’s top players being available for selection.
