Week 10 - South Warwickshire Summer Tennis League

Week 10 of the season for the South Warwickshire Summer Tennis League saw a full list of fixtures and no less than seven extra matches of previously postponed games due to rain. The Premier Division saw last year's Champions Stratford-on-Avon open up a decisive 11 point gap at the top after a comfortable 4-0 win over fourth positioned Claverdon. Shipston-on-Stour lie second on 20 points and managed a 2-2 draw with Evesham. Alcester claimed a 3-1 win over Henley-in-Arden to lie just 2 points adrift of Shipston and in third place. Henley stayed fifth after also playing a previously postponed match against Evesham which they drew 2-2. Stratford B had no match but remain outside the relegation zone one point clear of Evesham.

The race for Division One heats up as only one point separates the top three sides. Chipping Campden were top on 19 points but are now joined by Bidford-on-Avon after they drew 2-2 with fourth placed Inkberrow. The latter only fielded one pair and had a point deducted by the league as a result. Ardencote A moved up to within a point of the two leaders when they overcame Studley 3--1. Littleton overtook Studley in the table to move up to fourth when they beat them 3-1 in a match postponed from the previous week. The match between Whitnash and Chipping Campden was unfinished and should be completed within 14 days.

Division Two had a clear leader in Aston Cantlow on 22 points after they beat bottom side Littleton B 3-1. Stratford C remained second on 17 despite being beaten 3-1 by Claverdon B. Snitterfield stayed third with 16 points even though they had no match scheduled. The middle of the division stayed competitive as Alcester B and Ullenhall drew 2-2 and joined Snitterfield and Claverdon B in equal third.

On to Division Three and Studley B are beginning to run away 12 points clear at the top and with a 4-0 win over relegation candidates Wildmoor Spa. Chipping Campden B are clear in second but lost ground when first they lost 4-0 to fifth placed Ilmington and then lost 3-1 in a re-arranged match from the week before against fourth placed FISSC. Shipston B moved away in third position on 19 points after they were awarded the match against Henley B 4-0 with the opponents unable to raise a team again and docked another 2 league points and fined. They now sit bottom of the table with no points, while Wildmoor with a game in hand are also in relegation danger with only 2 points.

Leaders of Division Four by 3 points with 33 is Inkberrow B. They beat bottom side Chipping Campden C 4-0. Moreton-in-Marsh A moved up 3 points behind in second after they beat last but one team Inkberrow C 4-0 and then Campden C 3-1 in a match re-arranged from last week. HDA A Redditch are third with 21 points and they drew 2-2 with fourth placed Snitterfield B. Finally, a mid-table clash between Alcester C and Pershore B saw Alcester emerge victors 4-0.

Division Five enjoyed most matches played with nine fixtures. This included five rain re-arranged games. Ardencote B won three matches to lead the division by 10 with 38 points. They won their regular fixture away to third placed HDA B Redditch 4-0. They then played two re-arranged games beating HDA B again this time at home 4-0 and then 3-1 away to second placed Claverdon C. Claverdon C themselves also then played two re-arranged matches, first drawing at home 2-2 with mid-table Wildmoor B and then beating bottom side Moreton B 4-0. Third placed HDA B following their two defeats mentioned then played another re-arrange match resulting in a 4-0 win over Henley C which took HDA to 26 points. Studley C in fourth drew 2-2 with Wildmoor B in a final rain re-arranged match before meeting Henley C and beating them 4-0. Bidford B stay in the bottom two a point above Moreton B after losing to Wildmoor B 3-1
