Week 11 - South Warwickshire Summer Tennis League

Week 11 of the season for the South Warwickshire Summer Tennis League saw Stratford-on-Avon stumble when they fell to only their second defeat of the season losing 4-0 away to third placed Alcester.  They had a National League match re-arranged for the same date and were forced to field a severely weakened side for their Premier Division fixture.  This brought second placed Shipston-on-Stour on 24 points with two matches to go and mathematically within striking distance.  Shipston did their best to keep up the pressure with a 4-0 whitewash over Stratford's B team. Shipston's Adam Moran & James Hudson won both their rubbers in straights sets while William Welch & Tobias Kemp had to tough out a three setter before clinching the final rubber.  This result left Stratford B only one point above relegation threatened Evesham who had no match this week.  Claverdon moved clear of Henley-in-Arden in mid-table after they beat them convincingly 4-0.

The Division One title race is as close as ever with Littleton having taken over at the top with 23 points, two ahead of their rivals, after they played two matches.  First a re-arranged game from week 8 away to Whitnash from which they gained a valuable 4-0 win.  The second was against equal second spot opponents Bidford-on-Avon in which honours were shared in a 2-2 draw.  Chipping Campden dropped to equal second after being held to a  2-2 draw at home to fifth placed Studley.  Fourth positioned Ardencote Manor dropped points when they lost 3-1 at home against Whitnash, but kept their place on 19 points, two behind the teams above.  Inkberrow had no match and are now only one point above Whitnash who prop up the table on 11 points and with both threatened with relegation.

In Division Two the title race just got tighter as Alcester B closed to within two points of leaders Aston Cantlow.  The latter stay top on 26 points and have a game in hand beating fifth placed Stratford C 4-0.  However, Alcester faced Snitterfield twice within eight days and both resulted in 4-0 victories and second spot with 24 points.  Claverdon broke ranks from the mid-table to go third on 21 points after beating bottom side Littleton B 3-1 and then playing a re-arranged match from week 9 against Ullenhall which they drew 2-2.  Littleton B are on the brink of relegation following their result.

Division Three leaders remain Studley B on 37 points and looking good for the title.  They were held to a 2-2 draw after a great fight by fourth placed Ilmington, who then lost 3-1 in a rain re-arranged match from week 9 at home to Shipston B.  The latter then went on to a 4-0 walkover FISSC of Stratford meaning they moved up to just a point behind second placed Chipping Campden B.  Campden B for their part won away to relegation placed Wildmoor Spa A 4-0 and are ten points behind the leaders on 27 points.  Henley B with no match are confirmed as relegated to Division 4.

On to Division Four and leaders Inkberrow B extended their lead another point on 37 after beating sixth placed Alcester C.  Moreton-in-Marsh A stayed second but drop a further point adrift of Inkberrow with 33 points when Moreton could only manage a 3-1 win over third placed HDA A Redditch.  The latter in turn stayed third with Snitterfield B on 22 points and almost out of contention for a promotion place.  Snitterfield B enjoyed a 4-0 victory over the penultimate team Inkberrow C who are staring more and more at relegation.  Finally, fifth placed Pershore B drew 2-2 with the other relegation candidates bottom side Chipping Campden C.  Pershore then lost a re-arranged match from week 9 to Inkberrow C 3-1.  This final result lifted Inkberrow C off the foot of the table two points above Campden C and just a point behind Alcester C.

The final Division Five saw Ardencote B virtually crowned as champions with three weeks of the season to go.  Their 4-0 win over Bidford B took them to 42 points and 12 clear of second placed HDA B of Redditch who only have a maximum of 12 points to win.  Ardencote would have to drop every rubber of their last three matches to lose the title.  HDA B did their best this week beating Wildmoor B 4-0.  Third placed Claverdon, only a point behind HDA, are six points clear of fourth placed Studley C who have 23 points, although Claverdon slipped to defeat to Henley C 3-1.  Studley C pulled clear in fourth spot after beating Moreton B 3-1 from a re-arranged match from last week and then beating Henley C 4-0 in their regular fixture.  All these results left Moreton B and Bidford B sitting on the bottom of the league, both with 10 points apiece.
