The South Warwickshire Junior Summer Tennis League competition gets under way this month with free entry to teams of 12 years old and under as at 1st March. This year the League has enjoyed maintaining its record entry of 24 teams making up six Pools. While losing Stratford-on-Avon, Snitterfield B, and Studley A, B and C teams, the league welcomes two new clubs in Ilmington and Tanworth-in-Arden and three new teams in HDA C of Redditch and Alcester E and F teams, to replace them..
The competition takes the format of six Pools, each consisting of four teams, geographically local to each other, who each take it in turn to host a Pool every month over the summer between March and June. Pools will be played on a round robin basis with one pair of juniors from each club, one set each match (tie break normally at 6-6), allowing 3 sets/matches per team per pool night. On Monday, July 16th there will be a Play-Off Pool night at a Bidford-on-Avon Tennis Club between the winning teams from each of the six pools all of which will also receive Pool Winners medals. The top two teams from these play-offs will then go on to play in a full Cup Final to be played at Alcester Tennis Club alongside the men's Inter-League Charity Cup Final on Sunday 2nd September 2012. The Annual League Presentations and Trophies will be made immediately following this event and Buffet.
No fines are issued only points awarded i.e.: 2 for win, 1 for loss, 0 for fail to turn up.
Winners of the competition will receive a returnable Cup to keep for the year and both winners and runners-up receive personal medals to keep. All medals will be financed by the League President, Alcester man Tony King.
The Pools for 2012 consist of the following clubs who are mostly fairly local to each other:-
Pool A - Claverdon, Harbury, Henley-in-Arden A and Snitterfield.
Pool B - Alcester A, HDA B Redditch, Henley-in-Arden B, and Tanworth-in-Arden.
Pool C - Alcester C, Evesham, Littletons and Pershore.
Pool D - Alcester D, Bidford-on-Avon, HDA C Redditch and Inkberrow.
Pool E - Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh, Ilmington and Shipston-on-Stour.
Pool F - Alcester B, Alcester E, Alcester F and HDA A Redditch.
Bidford-on-Avon start the season by hosting Pool D's opening Pool Night on Monday, 12th March. Then Ilmington are hosts for Pool E on Thursday 15th March. Next up is Harbury who host Pool A on Wednesday, 21st March, then Pershore and Alcester B both host on Friday 23rd for Pools C and F respectively. Finally, Pool B gets underway when Tanworth-in-Arden host their Pool on Monday, 26th March, 2011. All Pool matches begin at 6.30pm unless stipulated except weekend dates.
