Rugby LTC “Family sponge ball event 2013”

Last week, Rugby LTC held their annual “Family sponge ball event” at the KMLC. Fifty competitors took part on what was a very enjoyable evening.

The first round of matches was the “Parent and child” competition. Group 1 went down to the very last point as Roger and William Moore won a sudden death point against Michelle and Ben Stuchbury. Group 2 saw every pair winning at least one match. However, Steve and Grace Rose remained unbeaten to claim the top spot. In group 3, three pairs won 2 matches each, but it was John Dover and Joey Green who took the honours by most points won. Sue and Charlotte Eaton were convincing winners of Group 4 winning all their matches. Group 5 was for the first time players and the winner’s medal went to Pete and Thomas Brinkley.

The second stage of the evening saw a mix of pairings. Group A was made up of pairings of a male adult and the strongest juniors. This was the catalyst for some extremely competitive tennis. Top spot finally went to Martyn Trasler and Ben Stuchbury as they won one more match than Steve Rose and Lucy Eaton (who had the same points total) Sue Eaton and Pete Stuchbury were the winners of the very closely fought Adult Mixed Group B. Group C was also an adult & child pairing which saw Natasha Moore and Oliver Hargrave convincing winners. Group D saw the youngest players all pairing up with some non-tennis playing mums. Juliet Green and Ella Stuchbury were undefeated in winning this group.

Many thanks must go to Michael Brignal for donating the winners medals and also to all those who made a contribution to the raffle.
