The Junior Cup competition Play-Offs organised by the South Warwickshire Summer Tennis League took place at Bidford-on-Avon Tennis Club this week attended by the Winners of each of the six Pools which played between March and June inclusive. The matches turned out some competitive tennis but saw the same two clubs, Henley A and HDA A Redditch, reach the final as in 2012..
The aged 12 and under teams were broken into two Pools on the night with reigning champions Henley-in-Arden A, HDA A Redditch and Chipping Campden A in Pool A and Alcester A, Stratford-on-Avon and Snitterfield in Pool B. Due to time factor matches were first to 4 games by two clear games.
In Pool A Henley A dominated proceedings as champions Bradley Smith & Max Beishon beat HDA A's Felix Gill & Joseph Morris 4-0. The Henley duo then beat Campden A's Jamie Short & Hugo Hall 4-1. The HDA pair managed to qualify for the semi-finals knockout by finishing in Pool A's runners-up spot after beating Campden A 4-0.
Pool B saw Alcester assert their authority as their pair Barnaby Williams & Harry Morley-Cotterall beat Snitterfield's Alex Straker & Ben Albrecht 4-1 and then Stratford's Robbie Fitchford & Chris Welland 4-0. The latter Stratford pair did manage to beat Snitterfield 4-1 to qualify as runners-up in Pool B. Campden A and Snitterfield played off for fifth place but couldn't be separated in a 4-4 draw and so finished fifth equal.
In the sudden death knockout semi-finals the winners of Pool A Henley A played the runners-up of Pool B Stratford which saw Henley emerge winners 4-0 to qualify for the Final. In the other semi-final Alcester A were looking favourites as winners of Pool B, but lost to HDA A, the runners -up of Pool A, 4-2 after a tight match.
So the Junior Cup Final will be contested between Henley-in-Arden and HDA Redditch and will be a full match played alongside the Men's Inter-League Charity Cup Final at HDA Redditch Tennis Club at 2.30pm on Sunday, 1st September, 2013. This will be followed by a free buffet and presentations to not only the winners and runners-up, but also to the other four Junior teams Campden A, Snitterfield, Stratford-on-Avon, ,and Alcester A, as winners of their season's Pools.
