Week 11 of the season for the South Warwickshire Summer Tennis League saw Stratford-on-Avon stay seven points clear in the Premier Division as both they and second placed Littleton enjoyed maximum point victories. Stratford beat mid-table Claverdon 4-0 while Littleton also won in straight sets 4-0 over relegation threatened Shipston-on-Stour (13). Third placed Alcester on 24 points and four behind Littleton, lost ground when they were beaten 3-1 by fifth place Henley-in-Arden (20). In the final Premier fixture fourth placed Evesham (22) defeated Chipping Campden 3-1 who now sit on the bottom with only nine points..
Tim Page & Simon West won both their rubbers for Stratford 6-1, 6-4 over James Courier & Pete Thomas (Claverdon) and 6-0, 6-1, over Richard Butler & Carsten Astheimer (Claverdon). Similarly Stratford's Richard Monk & Callum Bailey triumphed over Butler & Astheimer 6-4, 6-2, and over Courier & Thomas 6-1, 6-0.
Littleton also turned in a dominating performance as their pair Sean Witheford & Andy Reynolds beat William Welch & Hugh Allen (Shipston) 6-0, 6-1, and beat Andy Botting & Clive Lane (Shipston) 6-4, 6-0. Chris Elliott & Jack Phillpot (Littleton) beat Botting & Lane 6-1, 6-3, and beat Welch & Allen 6-2, 6-3.
Alcester slipped up against Henley resulting in their 1-3 defeat. Stuart Beach & Will Morley-Cotterell (Alcester) just edged out Matt Williams & John Hunt (Henley) 7-6, 7-6 after two tie-breaks. However, they then lost to Neil Supperstone & Max Rettallack (Henley) 2-6, 3-6. Tim Kenneally & Pete Watson (Alcester) then lost both their rubbers to Supperstone & Retallack 2-6, 3-6, and to Williams & Hunt 2-6, 6-3, 0-1 (2-10).
In the last Premier Division match Evesham got the better of Campden 3-1. Simon Wall & Andy Crowther (Evesham) opened with a defeat to Josh Thompson & Geoff Vaughan (Campden) 4-6, 6-4, 0-1 (11-13) in an extremely close encounter. However, they then went on to beat Tom Challener & George Smith-Lomas (Campden) 6-0, 6-0. John Clarke & Duncan Lowe (Evesham) went one better beating Challener & Smith-Lomas 6-0, 6-0, and Thompson & Vaughan 7-5, 6-2.
In Division One Ardencote Manor managed to hang on to their seven point lead despite fielding a depleted team and losing 0-4 to relegation threatened Alcester B (13). The reason they retained their lead is because the two teams equal second beneath them scored no points. Inkberrow A had no match scheduled for this week and Studley stuck on 22 points, lost out 0-4 to fourth placed Pershore who now have 21 points. Bottom side Bidford-on-Avon with only 10 points redeemed themselves this week with a good 3-1 win over Aston Cantlow who have 13points
Division Two leaders Studley B with 27 points still have a healthy 6 point lead despite their match at Whitnash (15) being postponed due to rain. Second placed Snitterfield A gained a couple of points on the leaders after they beat Shipston B 3-1. However, Shipston were only able to field one pair and are docked a point by the league. Stratford B (19) stay third after drawing 2-2 with equal fourth placed Campden B (18). The other fourth placed team Claverdon had no match.
With the leaders of Division Three Moreton-in-Marsh A (28 points) having their match against FISSC (16) rained off, HDA A of Redditch took advantage and moved to within four points of the top spot when they defeated Ilmington 3-1. Inkberrow B stay third on 21 points despite no match this week. The final Division Three fixture between relegation zone teams saw bottom side Littleton B (6) beat Henley B (12) 3-1.
On to Division Four and with comfortable leaders Ardencote Manor B enjoying a week off, the others had a chance to claw back some of their ten point lead. Snitterfield B moved clear in second place on 25 points and at the same time knocked four points off Ardencote's lead by beating bottom of the table HDA B of Redditch 4-0. Third side Wildmoor Spa A (24) could only claw back two points as they defeated the other relegation side Pershore B who have 12 points 3-1. Claverdon C (14) moved up to fourth in the table thanks to a resounding 4-0 victory over fifth side Alcester C (12).
In the final Division Five table Studley C increased their lead to six points thanks to a good 4-0 win over third placed Bidford B (19). Second placed Chipping Campden C with 24 points were held to a 2-2 draw by bottom team Wildmoor Spa B. The latter team have only 12 points. These were the only results as the match between Inkberrow C and Henley C was rained off and Moreton B had no fixture.
