Once again the Aegon Seniors Classic has proved a resounding success with all the competitors. The format of 1 Mens doubles, 1 Ladies doubles and 2 Mixed doubles has been a winner with all involved.
24 teams took part from 15 different Warwickshire Clubs with a staggering 261 different people playing at least one match.
Initially, there were 4 round robins with 6 teams in each group. These matches were played between February and May with the top 2 teams from each group playing a quarter final knockout.
This left Warwick Boat Club A, Four Oaks, Beechwood and Leamington as the remaining 4 teams that played the semi-finals and final on the Aegon Classic Ladies finals day at Edgbaston Priory.
The tennis was of a very high standard for the number of spectators who came to see what was going on. Beechwood saw off a very strong challenge from Four Oaks to win 3-1 while Leamington recorded the same 3-1 win over WBC A. The final was a fantastic match with it going right down to the wire. The teams ended up 2-2, but it was Beechwood who came out on top with 1 extra set being won.
Thanks to Graeme Baker, Jayne Ashton, Mervyn Stone, Roy Colabawalla, Rory Mc Cutcheon and the Edgbaston Priory Club for making this event possible.
