South Wawickshire Junior Tennis League - 1st April 2013

Junior Cup - March Round:

The first March round of Junior Tennis Cup competition Pool matches, for the South Warwickshire & District Junior League have been completed with Henley-in-Arden A, Snitterfield, Chipping Campden A, Stratford-on-Avon, and HDA A Redditch topping their respective groups.

The competition is for teams of 12 years old and under and takes the format of six Pools of four teams who each take it in turn to host a Pool each month over the summer between March and June. Pools are played on a round robin basis with one pair of juniors from each club, one set each match (tie break at 6-6), allowing 3 sets/matches per team per pool night. The Junior Play-offs Pool night between the winning teams from each of the six pools will be held at Bidford-on-Avon Tennis Club on Monday, 8th July. The top two teams from this play-off Pool will then go on to play in a full match Cup Final to be played at HDA Tennis Club, Redditch on Sunday 1st September alongside the men's Inter-League Charity Cup Final followed by the League's Annual Presentation.

In Pool A, hosts Henley A dominated proceedings as their pair of Max Beishon & Bradley Smith won their three matches dropping only one game, beating Tanworth-in-Arden 6-0, Henley C 6-1 and Claverdon 6-0. Sister side Henley C pair Henry Smith & Alex Evans were Pool runners-up as they beat Claverdon in a close match 6-4 and then Tanworth-in-Arden 6-1. In the final match Claverdon duo Sam Ward & Jacob Fenwick overcame Tanworth's Robin Mason & Harvey Ravenscroft in another close match 6-4.

Pool B played at Warwick, saw Snitterfield top their group when their players Alex Straker & Ben Albrecht defeated the other three sides. They overpowered hosts Warwick 6-2, then Henley B 6-0 and finally Campden B 6-2. Runners-up in the group were newcomers Warwick whose Rhys Morgan & Yiannis Vogiaridis beat Henley B 6-1 and then had a tight match with Campden B pair Oscar Roberts & Archie Organ before Warwick emerged victorious 7-5. Finally, the Chipping Campden B pair gained consolation with a 6-3 victory over Henley-in-Arden B pair Luca Bartlett & Archie Harper. .

On to Pool C played at Chipping Campden, where the host pair's A team James Elliot & Jamie Short defeated all-comers. First they beat Evesham 6-1, then Pershore 6-0 and finally Shipston 6-2. In what proved the match of the month, Pershore players Matt Sime & James Hall eased past Shipston pair Owain Jones & Tom English 7-6 on a tie-break. In the final match Shipston overcame the Evesham lads Ben Shepard & Michael Macleod 6-2.

At Bidford-on-Avon the Pool D matches were completed without problem, which is what the newly entered Stratford side had little of when they won all their matches. The Stratford boys Chris Welland & Robbie Fitchford beat Bidford 6-3, Ilmington 6-0 and Littletons 6-3. Littletons lay second in the Pool after their brothers Craig & Ali Witheford in turn beat Bidford 6-3 and then Ilmington 6-0. Bidford boys Cavan Farrow & Tom Bates gained consolation by defeating Ilmington pair Josh Gibb & Harry Cronshaw 6-3.

The Pool E matches at Alcester were postponed due to rain..

In the final Pool F played at Redditch the HDA A pair Joseph Morris & Felix Gill took all the honours defeating first HDA E 6-1, then Alcester B 6-0 and finally HDA C 6-2. HDA C brothers Nathan & Kieran Hawkins beat Alcester B 6-0 and beat HDA E 6-2. Finally Harvey Williams & Olympias Gougounias gained some respectability for Alcester B when the overcame HDA E pair Will Skelton & Tom Harris 6-3.
